Yeh Public hai

Yeh sab jaanti hai!!

I am a proud Millennial. I have seen Sachin bat and hit cover drives, I have played Samurai games, Sega games, arcade games, used a pager and then held a cellphone in my hands… basically, like you, I have seen the technology change the world. During my teen years, I used to hang out with my friends for hours and play cricket till I would faint or have a near-fatal fight with my elder brother over a stupid six (that six used to be a life-death indicator back then). I would plan days ahead in asking my crush out for a coffee date…

In those days, holding hands used to be the highest point of proven attraction and a promise of lifetime of togetherness…

However, many things have changed over the decades. Though i’m very socially affable and I can boast of being able to connect with people from all generations, I feel, that Gen Z are the most different when it comes to consumer behavior . Being digital natives , their consumer behavior is very important from a #digitalmarketing standpoint as this generation is different yet exciting and very tech friendly! In simpler words, their behavior is nothing less than an enigma!

So, is there any way in Gen Z behavior similar to others, Millennials in particular?

Well, I have good news.

Omdia report on OTT trends shows has some heartwarming news! The Indian subsciption Video-on-Demand has increased from almost doubled from 32 million in 2019 to 62 million in 2020. The revenue from subscription has grown INR 19 billion in 2020 to INR 46 million in 2022.

The main drivers of growth of OTT are Millennials and Gen Z . Their behavior has the following characteristics:

1. The evolving viewing habits of Indian users

2. Consumption of short format video on social platforms and smartphones

3. Increasing affinity for vernacular content

4. Foreign language shows with dubbing or subtitles.
